Strongly interacting phonon systems are usually isotropic and only recently have anisotropic systems been seriously investigated. We have found several new and interesting effects which are due to the anisotropy, these include the creation of high energy phonons from low energy phonons, suprathermal phonon distributions, the formation of phonon sheets with a uniform energy density, and recently, collisions between two phonon sheets which leads to the creation of a hot line. These effects arise from the fact that excitations only occupy a small solid angle in momentum space. This coupled with strongly anisotropic interactions makes the system qualitatively different to the usual isotropic system. A surprising feature is emerging, it appears that the occupied solid angle in momentum space is an important and fundamental parameter which has a significance similar to that of the temperature for these systems. This application is for funds to continue to develop the theory with Professor Adamenko and his group. We shall analyse the transverse expansion and pressure dependence of phonon sheets when there is high energy phonon creation and calculate the phonon signals from the hot line. Both these will be compared with experimental results. We plan to address the outstanding conceptual problem which is to understand the creation of the occupied solid angle in momentum space in the initial formation of the low energy phonon pulse.
