Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose what is essentially a collaborative project between the Southampton and Kharkov groups in the burgeoning filed of optical meta-materials, where added value will be achieved by combining the expertise of the two groups. In this project we envisage that the needs of the experimental research programme in Southampton will provide the drive for theoretical work and numerical modelling within the project, and this in turn will generate ideas for more experiments. In our research programme we will deploy a number of numerical and analytical techniques and will concentrate on the following research directions:Optimizing planar chiral polarization phenomena in metallic nanoastructures Study of the role of plasmon effectsDevelopment of loss-less planar chiral structures Development of practical nonreciprocal devices Understanding the relation between geometrical and optical properties of planar chiral structures Study of polarization manipulation in the near-field
