Summary on Grant Application Form
The COST scheme allows research groups throughout the EU to join together in small networks and provides funding for occasional exchange visits and group meetings of all members of a group. The applicant is coordinating a group of 5 members who all share an interest in the synthesis and photophysical properties of assemblies of molecules that are linked together using relatively weak interactions. The aims of the group are diverse and include the study of energy- and electron transfer between the components of a loosely-bound assembly of components; separating molecules according to their handedness (chirality); and determining possible applications of the molecules and assemblies as sensors and devices for transforming light energy from one wavelength into another, or for converting light into electrical current. The money requested is to facilitate exchange visits between members of the network and to allow PhD students and postdocs to participate fully in the network activities.
