Summary on Grant Application Form |
Data modelling is an interdisciplinary subject of great interest to engineers working in diverse fields and exemplifies the changing role of the engineer and the increasing reliance on multidisciplinary research teams. However, there still often remains a gap between data modelling researchers and engineers who want to derive models from data. This can often be explained by the level of mathematics used in the data modelling techniques. Whilst data modelling researchers are interested in developing mathematically rigorous techniques engineers frequently need something that works well and is easy to implement and understand. As a result engineers often lag behind the latest developments in data modelling research and therefore do not use state-of-the-art techniques. The aim of this summer school is to present the mathematics of data modelling at a level sufficient for engineering researchers to be able confidently to use a wide variety of data modelling techniques and be able to understand and objectively compare them.
