Summary on Grant Application Form |
The overall aim of this project is to develop long-term collaborations between the Southwest Research Institute, San Antonio, Texas, US and the University of Liverpool Impact Research Centre, UK with a view to advancing state-of-the-art techniques for solving highly non-linear complex engineering problems and developing new exploratory avenues of research related to safety and environmental issues, and homeland security. Both these centres are internationally recognised for their expertise in the field of engineering dynamics and structural impact research. An Overseas Travel Grant award will be used by the applicant to fund regular visits over a period of 18 months to the US to develop the collaborations. The visits will be used to discuss and consolidate plans for future research and agree a plan of action between visits. At the earliest opportunity, research proposals will be developed and possible US/UK funding agencies approached. These proposals are likely to span a period of at least 3-5 years involving co-operation and support from industry and governments from the US and the UK
