Summary on Grant Application Form
Modern information systems are made to be accessed via multiple channels, such as the world wide web, a mobile phone, interactive television or the keypad of any phone. Implementation of such information systems is usually achieved one channel at a time, often not even sharing the repository holding the data. The main goal of the work described here is the ability to build the information system with the multi-channel access being built in from the start. The development environment being built will allow the system to be described in abstract and at a later stage the actual interfaces to be installed for the various kinds of device. The second aim is to allow people to communicate over these systems by sending information by e-mail or text message to a component of the system which will analyse the text in the context of a data store and extract new data to be put in that data store.
