Summary on Grant Application Form |
Professor Sanche is a pioneer in the field of electron interactions with molecules. In 2000 he published a paper that suggested that low energy electrons may directly damage DNA in the cell. This has led to a fundamental review of how radiation damages genetic material and whether long exposures to low doses of radiation may lead to cancers. This (and subsequent) papers has led to the setting up of a major research programme across Europe. Professor Sanche is visiting Europe in 2005 and we wish to invite him to the UK to give a series of lectures and interact with UK scientists conducting related research programmes. His visit will benefit the UK community and lead to the formation of joint research projects.
