Summary on Grant Application Form |
SSAISB is the largest UK non-profit society in the area of Artificial Intelligence. The society holds annual conventions with a specific topic theme. In 2005, the theme Social Intelligence and Interaction in Animals, Robots and Agents has been chosen as particularly timely and relevant for the development of UK Artificial Intelligence. This theme attracted an unusually high number of submissions for running symposia at the convention. 10 symposia were accepted that cover a wide range of research relevant to the theme, including several robotics related symposia, symposia on virtual agents, virtual societies, embodiment, evolution of communication and many more. Leading experts in the field are hosting these symposia. Of 150-200 expected participants, about 50 percent student participation is expected. In order to ensure PhD students are able to attend the convention, we request 40 student bursaries ( 250 each) as the major expense. In addition we ask for financial support for 3 non-UK invited plenary speakers whose participation will enhance the international impact of the convention (the other plenary speakers from within the UK will be funded out of the registration fees). A small contribution is requested to cover the resulting adminstrative organisation and the allocation of the student bursaries.
