Summary on Grant Application Form |
Mathematical methods are important for research in many aspects of acoustics. This proposal aims to address the mathematical needs of UK postgraduate research students in engineering and physical acoustics. The proposal is for an intensive but collegial residential week for up to 40 postgraduate students drawn from across the UK with a high staff/student ratio. The course will introduce important mathematical techniques in acoustical contexts using lectures, examples classes, tutorials and one-to-one 'surgeries. Course participants will gain the ability and the confidence to use advanced mathematical tools as an integral part of their research activities. The proposal is based upon contributions by leading mathematicians and acousticians from several Universities coordinated by Professor Attenborough at Hull.
