Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal seeks funds to help run an international conference, CoLIS5, with the specific theme of the role of context within information access systems. The conference is the fifth in a successful series of international conferences; the first time the conference series has come to the UK. The previous conference attracted 200 international delegates, for CoLIS5 we expect a similar or greater number. We have chosen a conference theme that is important and timely to a range of computing areas which deal with information and information access including areas such as artificial intelligence, information retrieval, human-computer interaction and mobile computing. The grant will support student attendance at the event, support research student training by holding a dedicated Doctoral Forum and increase the prestige of the event by providing the costs of one of the invited speakers, Professor David Blair, University of Michigan. Professor Blair is a recognised international leader in the area of information systems. His involvement will add to the existing quality of the event, attract delegates and demonstrates the international nature of the conference.
