Summary on Grant Application Form |
Natural phenomena can typically be modeled by systems having many simple interacting constituent parts. In such situations trying to predict the behaviour of the individuals becomes almost impossible if not impractical. A nice way to get a handle on this is to study averages and other quantities which measure the deviations from the mean or average behaviour. More importantly we also compute distribution functions which in some sense encompass all the possible averages. In this proposal, we study how the distribution will behave when the number of constituents gets larger and larger, a situations usually dictated by the problems. we may expect to find in this limit a universal and therefore simple formula describe complex phenomena.
