Summary on Grant Application Form |
The complimentary time and frequency domain analysis of linear systems is now well established and provides considerable insight into the behaviour of many engineering systems. The aim of this research study is to extend these methods to provide a methodology to analyse nonlinear systems, which exhibit sub-harmonic and other severe nonlinear behaviours, in both the time and the frequency domain. This will be achieved by deriving new system identification and analysis procedures for this class of systems, and by using a new approach to compute the generalised frequency response functions for severely nonlinear systems, and hence to investigate the output response characteristics in the frequency domain. The methods will be bench tested on both simulated and real data sets including data from space physics and space plasma processes.
