Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal is to extend and improve the COAST project. COAST was funded by EPSRC for two years and has attracted supporting funds from The British Council, the Scottish Executive and the 1851 Royal Commission. It has been assessed as Outstanding by EPSRC's Individual Grant Review. COAST is an exhibition of contemporary art aimed at raising awareness of the problems of coastal pollution and erosion around our coastline. It consists of paintings, videos, a working model and posters explaining the scientific background. It has been shown at five major venues in Scotland and two in Greece, including the prestigious Goulandris Museum in Athens and has attracted much publicity in the press, radio and television. Further funds are now sought to improve the exhibition and shown it at six high profiler venues in England over a three year period. Emphasis will be on public spaces where we will target the family audience. At the same time, venues will be sought for showing it in other countries on the continent. A smaller version of the exhibition will be shown at small venues in Scotland. Running alongside the exhibition is a programme of talks using interactive exhibits.
