Summary on Grant Application Form
New advances in the life sciences are bringing the promise of a wide range of effective therapies. Many of these therapies are based on large biological molecules which are highly susceptible to damage if handled incorrectly. This makes the development of large scale processes for their preparation extremely difficult and expensive. New ways are emerging for the successful and rapid design of these large scale processes. These are as a result of an EPSRC-funded Innovative Manufacture Research Centre for Bioprocessing. The effective evaluation and dissemination of these new methods across a wide range of the biopharmaceutical industries and for the large number of therapeutic agents being addressed requires new project management skills. The challenge is to put these in place so that technology transfer can take place as effectively as possible into an industry which is already exceptionally busy with the complex and emerging new life sciences.
