Summary on Grant Application Form |
Nanosphere lithographic methods will be used in conjunction with physical deposition techniques (specifically designed for high throughput synthesis of materials) to control particle sizes of supported metals and alloys. Materials will be deposited on silicon micro-fabricated arrays of electrodes, and characterised using AFM and FEGSEM. This will allow catalysts of supported metals and alloys of a defined size (in the range 2-10 nm)to be investigated for their electrochemical activity in the oxidation of small organic molecules. The objective is to elucidate particle size effects, and the effect of the supporting substrate on the activity.
