FROM ORIGINAL PROPOSAL - A multidisciplinary team combining detector expertise at UWA, RAL and DL with the electron spectroscopy expertise at UWA, DL and industry will focus on rapid, efficient electron energy analysis in the electronic and chemical characterisation of evolving organic/inorganic heterojunctions in real time. This demanding goal necessitates low incident x-ray/UV/electron flux to avoid damage to the organic molecules and high efficiency truly parallel detection will be achieved by exploiting unique detector technology developed at Aberystwyth. Initially a prototype array will be fitted to a CLAM4 electron energy analyser and commissioned at Aberystwyth. In parallel with this a new longer array will be developed using the standard AMI 1.5 micron CMOS (ABN) process.NEW PROPOSAL - With one year of the REES project remaining we have a 384 detector array on a single silicon chip in use at Aberystwyth. A much higher yield than anticipated enables us to deliver an array twice as long as that originally proposed on a single silicon chip with which we will measure energy spectra without gaps. At a relatively low cost we will therefore deliver a very much improved array for REES research.
