Summary on Grant Application Form
This application requests funds to hold four meetings between UK and Japanese river engineering researchers during the period 1998-2000 around the theme of Flow and sediment transport in two-stage channels . The aim of these meetings is to creat a forum for the constructive exchange on infomation, ideas and skills, to develop and work on specific collaboration sub-projects and to record the outcome ina milestone statement to be published at the close of the project. The UK participants are drawn from current grant holders in the EPSRC Flood Studies Programme, the Japanese participants are prominent researchers in the field. The project will seek to enhance the interpretation and theoretical treatment of the data collected during the Flood Studies programme by exposing it to high quality comment from international experts. Such comment will be timely because it would come at a stage when design recommendations are being developed from the analysis of the data. In the longer term the project represents and opportunity to develop working relationships between Japan and UK river researchers which will be mutually beneficial to the respective research communities.
