Summary on Grant Application Form |
We aim to advance the application of magnetic resonance techniques such that we can study, quantitatively, the non-steady state behaviour of magnetically hetergeneous multi-component, multi-phase systems. To achieve this, magnetic resonance pulse sequences will be developed and implemented to visualise the distribution of chemical species, phases and chemically-specific flow velocity vectors and diffusion coefficients. Spatial resolutions of 100-500 um with fastest data acquistition time-scales of <50 ms are to be acheived. Case studies include gas-liquid, and liquid-liquid mixing during turbulent flow, the design of novel reactors, and the optimisation of chemical techniques used in enhanced oil recovery.
