Summary on Grant Application Form
A dedicated catalyst test facility is sought to investigate:(i) Fluorous bi-phase catalysis: mechanistic studies; evaluate reactivity/selectivity of fluorous-soluble catalyst systems for hydroformylation and asymmetric hydrogenation. To assess the benefits of separation of catalyst recovery under industrially relevant conditions.(ii) Supercritical hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) solvents: To measure and quantity the solvent properties of a range of supercritical fluids as novel solvent media. To examine the effects of reactants on solvent properties and how clustering is effected by pressure.(iii) Polymer-heterogenised homogeneous catalysts: To investigate the use of tailored polystyrene resins as catalyst support materials in industrially important heterogenised olefin polymerisation reactions.(iv) Development of new activators and precatalysts for olefin polymerisation: Test and evaluate new activators and precatalysts under high pressure conditions for olefin homo- and co-polymerisation.
